The Facts: Suicide in the District of of Columbia

According to the CDC every nine days one person is lost to suicide in the District of Columbia, making suicide the second leading cause of death for young people aged 10-24.  While data on transgender youth in the District is unavailable, we know LGBQ youth right here in our city are 2.7 times more likely to have contemplated suicide.  The suicide prevention bill is an important step forward, but much work remains!  Thank you to our Youth Working Group members Eddy Ameen and Chris Obermeyer, and everyone who worked on passing this bill.
